CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
JULY 1 - OCTOBER 1, 2025
An Open Call
Every other year, The Kavli Prize invites the community to nominate scientists whose basic research has fundamentally transformed the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience – the big, the small, and the complex. The prize consists of $1 million awards in each of the three fields and is awarded directly to the Laureate(s).
THE NOMINATION PROCESS
- Nominations are made on The Kavli Prize website - the system will open on July 1, 2025.
- A nomination consists of 5 simple steps, requiring a CV of the nominee(s), a nomination letter describing the work and impact of the nominee(s), and optional references. These materials must be in English.
- Anyone can nominate, but self-nominations are not accepted.
- Multiple nominations recognizing different breakthroughs are welcomed.
- Nominations can be for a single person or a shared prize for closely related fundamental contributions. Up to 3 individuals can be nominated for their work on the same breakthrough.
- Each nomination is carried over for another 2 cycles (4 years), and nominators may update and resubmit their previous nominations during the open call period.
- Nominees for The Kavli Prize must be living.
The Kavli Prize recognizes and values that different perspectives enable breakthroughs, and we are committed to recognizing breakthrough science worldwide. We encourage nominators to be mindful of the full breadth of the scientific enterprise and be attuned to gender, race and ethnicity, geographical region, and institutional range.
